Happy Holidays – 2013

Greetings from our ‘country home’ to you and yours this holiday season. This past year has been a busy one for us, with much time and energy focused on Anna’s pottery studio, Prancing Pony Pottery. There were also home renovations, and occasional bouts of rest and relaxation, as we continue to build our life together.

The year started off with good news – Prancing Pony Pottery was accepted as a vendor at the Virginia Renaissance Faire (aka VARF). This meant creating lots of stock, making a tent cover that looks like it belongs in the renaissance, and getting all of the supporting items needed for the five weekend run of faire. VARF was pretty good to us, and we hope to be back in 2014 with an even bigger booth.

Anna also spent time learning from Terry Tessem, a potter whose work she admires (and we may own just a ‘few’ of his pieces) at his studio in Pennsylvania. It’s been a real treat working with Terry; getting to know him and his wonderful wife, Judy. Anna worked with Terry Tessem this year at the Maryland Renaissance Faire, and a few pieces of her work were featured in the shop. Gregory split his time helping the two potters as well as the crew at Tiger Torre Art (Anna’s sister’s shop).

In August, we began two home renovation projects – the master bathroom and the pottery studio. The master bath has had issues since it was remodeled many years ago, and the ‘walls’ in Anna’s studio were sheets. After a considerable amount of time and effort, we finally found a contractor we felt could work with us, and started both projects at the same time.

While the renovations took much longer than expected, our master bathroom looks great and doesn’t leak anymore. The pottery studio has actual walls, running water, and copious amounts of lights and outlets. Anna is very happy to have a ‘real’ pottery studio where she can play with clay, and keep the dust mostly contained.

It’s never easy to share bad news, but we lost our dog, Tucker, recently due to liver failure. He was a gentle giant with a big heart who made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
